Welcome everyone to Money Socket. I know NewMoneyBlog was just in it’s early stages and this big change may have seemed rather quick. However, I felt that the sooner the better since the old site hasn’t really grown much. Like many times in your personal life and business, you have to make changes if you can foresee a better outcome after making that change. This is one of those times and one of those changes.

I started NewMoneyBlog as a school project during the past semester. It was an internet business applications class. It was a great class and I am glad that USF offered it as online entrepreneurship is becoming very popular. When I created NewMoneyBlog, it was my first crack at the wordpress software, which this site runs on. I had time to play around with different themes and modules and I did a lot of read on the topic of blogging. After just eight weeks or so of blogging I realized that I wanted to do things differently so I decided to make the drastic change.

The main change of course is the name itself. I initially called my blog NewMoneyBlog because I wanted to have an audience of young adults who are like me, so I wanted the slang term “new money” to be in there because thats the term young successful entrepreneurs are sometimes refered to. I quickly learned that not many people use that term besides me and perhaps some rappers. So what happens is the blog might be confused with several other great blogs on out there on the same topics that have similar names. I didn’t want my site to come across as a copycat and thereby decrease the credibility of the site and also increases the chances of my blog getting lost in the sea of millions. I knew about four weeks into it that I would need a new domain name.

After literally hours after hour, day after day of thinking up names only to find out it’s already been registered, I finally Came up with MoneySocket.com. This sounds much better and makes more sense. Money Socket is short and sweet, so it should be easier to remember and promote. I did get inspiration from a local real estate site, however the content they cover and the audience is quite different so there won’t be any confusion. Under this name, I can establish a long term vision for the site and develop my own unique style.

Some Changes you may notice here is a much cleaner layout. I decided not to go with a highly graphical design like the old site. It was giving problems to Internet Explorer 6 users as well as computers on different resolutions. So what good is great content if 5% of your readers can’t even make out the words on their screens? I decided to go with something thats easier on the eyes although it might not be as impressive graphically.

So please update your bookmarks and your RSS subscriptions. There is much more great content to come on the areas of personal finance, investing, e-commerce, interesting stuff and my business life (since that may or may not qualify as interesting).
