Why I started blogging…Not for the money.

It’s been over a week now since I “officially” launched this blog. I haven’t done any promotion whatsoever. I’m starting a get the hang of it and I actually find blogging, or writing in general pretty relaxing. I’m in San Francisco’s Chinatown right now, parked on a hill staring into the gorgeous views of the TransAmerica tower and the bay bridge. I was thinking all morning and asking myself why I really started blogging. I came up with several reasons.

  1. My personal journal: It’s great to have a personal journal. When we were kids in school I remember having journals and telling myself how stupid it was. But now I think it’s a great way to chronicle your journey in life and it’s a great way to monitor your goals as you can go back and see your progress so far. The written word doesn’t lie, especially when it’s your own.
  2. Keeps me sharp: I started blogging so it keeps me sharp with regards to the topics I cover. I find myself researching daily on topics such as personal finance, saving, investing, frugality, consumer behavior, and sometimes cool stuff like hot cars and technology. By committing to writing about these topics it keeps me learning and applying theory to my personal life.
  3. Connecting with others: I wanted to provide relevant information to people who are like me and people who are starting out. Money can’t buy the personal satisfaction I get in knowing that my words could help one of you in any way. Hopefully you won’t make the same mistakes I did as well. I also see blogs where readers post many comments and start discussions and that is what inspired me to really give it a shot. When we create a synergy for success, we can’t help but to get smarter and grow stronger.
  4. Cold Hard Cash: Of course I can’t leave out money! Come on now. It would definitely be cool to make some money with this blog. Revenue will be sorta like a report card for this site. But I was never one to place significance on grades.

You may think I’m full of crap since money is on the bottom of the list. But it’s the 100% truth. And that is exactly why I know this blog will be a success. When you are passionate about something and you would do it for free, you will be successful. I have many streams of income and I know this blog won’t be the thing that will make me rich, that is why the integrity of this site will never be for sale, not for any amount of money. Have a great Memorial Day weekend! Have fun and stay safe.
